OMTech Laser Business Stories: Kara Franklin

Embark on the inspiring journey of Kara Franklin, a Legal IT Trainer with a passion for laser engraving that has blossomed into a thriving part-time business:

I'm Kara Franklin, the owner of House of Franklin. My journey began with a simple scroll saw, but the desire to optimize our sign-making business led my husband, Jarrett, and me to explore the world of laser engraving four years ago. Intrigued by the potential for creating beautiful signs at a faster pace, we invested in a 60W OMTech laser. The love for this machine and the opportunities it brought prompted us to add a 100W OMTech laser to our creative arsenal.

Navigating the complexities of these lasers presented a learning curve, but with my husband's mechanical prowess, we conquered challenges together, from alignment to lens cleaning. While laser engraving is a part-time endeavor for me alongside my full-time role, it has become a fulfilling way to fill my time, especially during my husband's military deployments.

My background in Fine Art and Graphic Design made the transition into this new medium smooth. The joy of designing files and painting signs came naturally, but mastering the intricacies of the laser itself was an adjustment. Jarrett's knack for understanding the mechanics of the machine became our guiding light, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.

For those on the brink of starting their own business, my advice is to dive into tutorials and seek guidance from fellow makers. Embrace the uncertainties, as they will transform into ease and skill over time. My part-time venture with OMTech lasers now yields an annual income ranging from 50k to 80k, proving the lucrative potential for those willing to embark on this journey.

As a part-time creator, I've reached a point where I get to choose what to create. I encourage new laser owners to find their niche and create what they love. When passion is infused into your work, it reflects in every creation and sets the stage for a fulfilling and prosperous venture. OMTech engraving machines are not just tools; they are catalysts for turning your passion into a thriving business.
